SYGMA’s story began in January 1984 when senior officers of Sysco Corporation started
discussions for forming a new distribution company. Their vision was to establish
an independent subsidiary of Sysco Corporation that would specialize in service
to restaurant chains.
Sysco’s corporate structure ensures that the entrepreneurial spirit and drive is
as strong in the parent company as in each of its subsidiary companies. That spirit
– a combination of personal integrity, drive, creativity, and determination to benefit
our partners – is our guiding philosophy and the key to our past success and continued
growth.
SYGMA’s start-up team established values, strategies, systems, procedures, and an
infrastructure before the first case of product was shipped in May of 1985 from
SYGMA’s first distribution center in Oklahoma. In 1988, The SYGMA Network welcomed
the addition of Sugar Foods and Food Service Specialists through Sysco’s acquisition
of CFS.
Over 40 years ago and millions of deliveries later, SYGMA is one of the largest
foodservice distributors in the United States. Since the beginning, SYGMA has built
a solid foundation on its entrepreneurial spirit and drive and focused its business
on developing relationships with its restaurant partners to help them enhance the
value of their brand.
